Winter Storm Causing Massive Power Outages As Ice Builds On Power Lines

Ice, freezing rain and sleet made a mess of the weather and the power situations in the Piedmont Triad Sunday morning.

Many in the area are waking up without electricity, especially in Forsyth County, which had the highest amount of outages. Ice collecting on the trees, causing them to weigh down on power lines in some cases.

As of 8:30 a.m., there were 42,679 power outages in Forsyth County.

The stronger ice accumulation in Forsyth attributed to higher numbers, but Guilford County's outages were rising as well, sitting at 21,814.
