Tropics Heating Up: Watching Dorian Over the Next Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Right on schedule, the tropics are getting busy as August fades and September approaches. There are two systems. One, of no concern off the Carolina coast that will become Erin. Another, Dorian, that we'll need to watch over the next week.

Let's start with the system off of the Carolina coast. A tropical depression formed Monday afternoon, which will turn into Tropical Storm Erin sometime today. It's moving farther and farther away from the Carolinas, so we'll have no impact.

Farther out in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Dorian is heading into the Caribbean Sea. It's already bringing wind and rain to the islands there, and will be causing trouble in that area through the week.
